Dripline Price in Kenya
Dripline price is KES 8,000 for 0.3 mm dripline and KES 9,000 for 0.4 mm dripline. It is according to the thickness or gauge of the dripline.
Accessories to Use with Driplines
- HDPE pipes and fittings – distributes water from source tank or river. The size recommended depends on the size of the farm. For a small farm a 32mm or 1 inch can work.
- Water Pump – necessary to pump water for discharge with driplines if the gravitational pressure is not sufficient.
- Water filter – screen or disc filter removes sand or dirt that can block dripline emitters.
- Ball Valves – controls water flow in a drip irrigation system.
- Dripline fittings – for connection of driplines and pipes.
- Fertilizer injector – feeds soluble fertilizers for supply using drip irrigation system.
Driplines for 1 Acre
The number and total length of dripline roll to use depends on the crop type and size of farm. Drip irrigation takes a bed layout and the driplines to lay depends on the crop row spacing.
The required number of driplines per acre for common drip-irrigated crops are as shown below.
| Type of Crop | Number of Driplines in a bed | Recommended Dripline Roll |
| Watermelon | 1 | 30 cm |
| Capsicum | 2 | 20 cm |
| Tomato | 2 | 20 cm |
| Cabbage | 2 | 20 cm |
| Onions | 3 | 15 cm |
| Garlic | 3 | 15 cm |
| Cucumber | 2 | 20 cm |
Crops Recommended for Driplines
We recommend use of our driplines for
irrigation of vegetables, legumes, flowers, fruits and other field crops. Specific examples of crops suitable for irrigation with driplines (drip irrigation) include:
- Vegetables – kales, Swiss chards, cabbages, broccoli, Managu, tomato, capsicum
- Onions – bulb onions, and spring onions.
- Garlic
- Fruits – strawberry, watermelon, citrus and papaya.
- Herbs – oregano, mint, cilantro, basil, thyme and coriander.
- Flowers – cut flowers, lilies and bougainvillea.
Driplines in Kenya: Recommended Working Pressure, Run Length and Spacing
Driplines operate at low pressure normally gravitational but only for short run length. If the run length or the farm is big, you need a water pump to generate pressure.Recommended run length depends on the dripline emitter spacing. The run length should not exceed 100m.
Advantages of Using Driplines in Kenya
- Driplines are highly effective and allow uniform watering of crops.
- The dripline wets the root zone alone, thus saving on water.
- By wetting the plant and leaving the rest areas dry, weeds barely grow.
- Minimal fungal rot because the leaves remain dry.
- drip irrigation kit is less costly to use. It can work without need of pumping.
- Ideal for wide range of crops.
Best ways to ensure your driplines work perfect
- Use a quality water filter in your system to prevent clogging dripline.
- Install a hydrant to allow for control of irrigation in the farm.
- Flush the system frequently to remove debris which can clog the dripline.
- If you are using fertigation kit, ensure you only use soluble fertilizers.
- When installing the system consult expert technicians to ensure correct measures are followed.
